      Sara Teasdale (1884-1933)

                    The Look

STREPHON kissed me in the spring,
        Robin in the fall,
But Colin only looked at me
        And never kissed at all.

Strephon's kiss was lost in jest,
        Robin's lost in play,
But the kiss in Colin's eyes
        Haunts me night and day.

The Look appeared in the January 1914 issue of Harper's Magazine as well as the Anthology of Magazine Verse for 1914. It can also be found in:
  • Teasdale, Sara. Love Songs. New York: The Macmillan Company, 1917.
  • Forbes, Anita P., ed. Modern Verse. New York: Henry Holt and Company, 1921.
